ARE YOU BORN IN HASTAM'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 13)

HASTAM consists of 5 stars, known in modern astronomy as ALPHA-CORVI, BETA-CORVI, DELTA-CORVI, GAMMA-CORVI & EPSILON-CORVI.  Beta-Corvi is the brightest among these stars with a visual magnitude of 2.66.

Hastam"s main translation is "THE HAND". And it's alternative translation is "LAUGHTER".  The root "HASTAM" in Sanskrit means "TO LAUGH".

Hastam's symbol is "a hand with all the five fingers".  Through this symbol, the ancient seers are trying to emphasize Hastam's relation with FATE.

The deity that is presiding over Hastam is a sloar deity named "SAVITAR".  Savitar has a jovial, light-hearted type of persona.  He is always portrayed with a laughing gesture. This makes Hastam interested in all kinds of sports on all planes of existence.  On the terrestrial earthly plane, Hastam relates to both mind games and physical sports.

Savitar is supposedly to be extremely skilled with his hands.  This makes Hastam directly associated with everything done with the hands.  The reasoning behind the naming of Hastam should now be clear to us.  Savitar is also considered to be a crafty trickster, gambler and fraudster.  In the ancient times, all kings (represented by Sun) were supposed to be well versed in the arts of lying, deceit, fraud, gambling and even robbery!  The book "SUN-THE COSMIC POWERHOUSE @ Sagar Publications" reveals on this aspect of the Sun's nature.

In a way the nature and functioning of Savitar is akin to a bright sunny day where everyone is feeling good and are involved in creative activities of all kinds.  This is what makes Hastam one of the most optimistic and creative nakshatras.

In the universal scheme of things, Hastam relates to "HASTAM STHAPANIYA AGAMA SHAKTI" - the power to put one's object of desire in one's hands. The symbolism makes it clear beyond words that Hastam promises immediate acquirement of one's object of desire through one's skill.

Hastam is a passive nakshatra as this can be understood in terms of its planetary ruler MOON.  It is a Male &"VATA" (airy) nakshatra & belongs to the Vaishya's class because Hastam is associated with production, buying & selling of goods.  It can be said that Hastam has the most business like approach to life in comparison to all other nakshatras.  In the present day and age where business and commerce rules everything else, Hastam has a dominant role.

Hastam relates to the direction east, south, north & northwest.

According to Varahamihira, those with Moon in Hastam makes one 'energetic, daring & merciless".  In a way, it is a street-smart professional.

The 1st paagam of Hastam indicates abundant energy and makes one expert at underhanded activities;
The 2nd paagam of Hastam indicates down-to-earth practicality;

The 3rd paagam of Hastam indicates business-minded & this is the most cleverest amongst the Hastam's paagams; &

The 4th paagam of Hastam indicates the focus on family life and communal co-existence.
For those suffering from the bad effects resulting from afflictions to this nakshatra, the best remedial measure is worship of the SUN as a creative force, at sunrise.

DO YOU KNOW which paagam of HASTAM you belong to.......e.g. 3RD PAAGAM???
Every paagam comes with different interpretations.  Only DETAILED ASTROLOGERS can let you know the difference.

MOST FAMOUS PERSONALITIES OF HASTAM :-  SWAMI VIVEKANANDA, the famous Indian Saint, who made waves in the West by introducing the VEDANTA PHILOSOPHY, has his Moon sign in Hastam.  He was crafty in his speech combined with wit, humour and sarcasm to enthrall audiences across America & Europe.  Back in India, he preached a very "HASTAM-DOCTRINE OF WORKING HARD ON A MATERIAL LEVEL".

ONE MORE 7AAM ARIVU - SIDDHAR BOGHAR & TAOISM

SIDDHAR BOGHAR, one among the 18 Tamil Siddhars, received his initiations from the illustrious Natha Yogi, Kalangi.

Contemplative insight allegedly guided Bogar to construct a primitive form of aircraft that he used in a journey to CHINA. He is also credited with inventing a sea-going craft using a stream engine, preparing an indestructible STATUE of the god, MURUGA, using nine poisonous herbs and minerals and making a major contribution to the siddhar medicine system which boasts possession of fabulous remedies that heal presently incurable diseases and make possible an extreme longevity. This are clearly documented in Boghar's SAPTAKANDA.

A popular legend describes how Boghar made several missionary excursions into China. A master of astral projection and soul transmigration, Boghar ENTERED the body of a recently deceased Chinese youth, REVIVED it and grew to become the Chinese sage, LAO TZU, author of the TAO TE CHING and founder of TAOISM.

Taoism has a rich alchemical faction devoted to physical longevity that lends credit to this bizarre tale. The TAO TE CHING embodies the same esoteric style that haunts the obscure language of the Tamil siddhars.  Any student of Taoist Yoga is shocked by the similarity of its techniques to those of the Tamil siddhars.

Initially, it could not be accepted of the possibility that BOGHAR WAS INDEED LAO TZU.  Finally, a pilgrimage guide book written in English, described Palani's Hill temple to Lord Muruga and contained a brief monograph on Boghar identifying him as the Chinese sage, Lao Tzu.

Boghar's monumental work of 7000 verses has recently been edited in Tamil by one of the great living apostles of this tradition, Yogi S.A. Ramaiah of Madras.

ARE YOU BORN IN UTHIRAM'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 12)

UTHIRAM consists of two very contrasting stars, known in modern astronomy as BETA-LEONIS AND 93-LEONIS.  Beta-Leonis is among the brightest stars in the night sky with a visual magnitude of 2.13 whereas 93-Leonis is a relatively faint star with a visual magnitude of 4.53.

The main symbol of this nakshatra is "THE TWO BACK LEGS OF A BED". In fact, Pooram (also bed, but front legs) & Uthiram form a pair. The difference is that, Uthiram is related to the back legs and not the front legs of a bed, as it is for Pooram.

ARYAMAN, one of the 12 Adityas (SOLAR DEITIES), is the main ruling deity of Uthiram. Aryaman is seen as a deity presiding over patronage, favours and kindness. Therefore the key motivation of this nakshatra is towards helping or receiving help from others. As such, Uthiram borns are very cultured, social and civilized.  They are also very concerned about etiquettes and social graces.

Aryaman is also seen as deity who places strong emphasis on friendship. In Vedic rituals, he is always involved in a pair, either with BHAGA (the ruling deity of Pooram), or with MITRA (the presiding deity of ANUSHAM).

Uthiram, like Sun, is STRAIGHT-FORWARD, and UNHESITATING in its dealings.  Uthiram is ready to serve but only from a POSITION OF SUPERIORITY.

Uthiram is considered a balanced nakshatra. Its balancing quality is pretty evident from the nature of its ruling deity Aryaman.  One needs to have a balanced personality to have social graces, kindness, compassion and friendliness towards other living beings. In a way it mirrors THULAM (fairness) when it comes to all that is encompassed by the term "balance".

Uthiram falls in the Kshatriya (ruling/warrior) class of nakshatras because its qualities are derived from the association with the Kshatriya planet Sun.

Its a Female nakshatra.  This a perplexing classification considering that both its ruling planet and ruling deity are male. Maybe of the female attributes that it have, such as GRACE, KINDNESS, BENEVOLENCE, CONCIDERATION & RECEPTIVITY resulted it to be classified a female nakshatra.

LIPS, SEX ORGANS & THE LEFT HAND are the body parts related to this nakshatra.  It is primarily "VATA" (airy nakshatra).

The two DIRECTIONS it relate to most strongly are the EAST & SOUTH.

According to Varahamihira, those with Moon in Uthiram "earn through their knowledge, and are well liked and popular and live a life of comfort and luxury".

The 1st paagam of Uthiram indicates strongly ethics along with an advisory capacity;

The 2nd paagam of Uthiram indicates good organizational ability, practical & hard-working;

The 3rd paagam of Uthiram relates to the philanthropic side in a Robin Hood fashion; and

The 4th paagam of Uthiram indicates the intellectual as well as the spiritual side.

For those suffering from the bad effects resulting from afflictions to this nakshatra, the best remedial measure is worship of the SUN.

DO YOU KNOW which paagam of UTHIRAM you belong to?  Every paagam comes with different interpretations.  Only DETAILED ASTROLOGERS can let you know the difference.

MOST FAMOUS PERSONALITIES OF UTHIRAM :- GEORGE WASHINGTON, one of the founding fathers of the U.S.A. It is interesting to note that he fashioned the capital city of Washington bearing his name.

ARE YOU BORN IN POORAM'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 11)

POORAM, is represented by 2 bright stars in the back of the constellation of Simmam.  Vedic Seers saw these 2 stars as representing the "BACK LEGS OF A COT". These stars are known in modern astronomy as DELTA-LEONIS (ZOSMA) & THETA-LEONIS (CHERTAN).  With a visual magnitude of 2.56, Zosma is the brighter one.

Its main symbol is the legs of a couch or bed. Some astrologers also use a SWINGING HAMMOCK as one of Pooram's symbols.

Pooram relates to a time where we look for rest, relaxation and amusement after fulfilling our wordly duties and responsibilities.  The symbol of the legs of a bed relates to the beginning part of the relaxation process. A lot of scientists and researchers have found that the solution to a problem usually comes to them, not when they are actually working at the problem.  The solutions come in the period when we have taken our mind-off it and are in a state of complete relaxation.

BHAGA, one of the 12 Adityas (solar deities) is the main ruling deity of this nakshatra.  Bhaga's name translates roughly into "DELIGHT", "PLEASURE" and "INDULGENCE".  That's why it is related to the planet Venus.

Bhaga's strong relationship with enjoyment makes this as one of the most carefree nakshatras.  Pooram natives don't like to worry as they are comfortable, especially from a physical point of view.

Pooram is directly connected to Shiva-Lingam, the most commonly worshipped form of Shiva.

Pooram is considered to be a balanced nakshatra.  Pooram balances creativity with relaxation, work with pleasure, aggression with gentleness.

Pooram relays the brahminical side of the planet Venus.  SHUKRA CHARYA, the presiding deity of Venus, is the preceptor of the demons and has the unique distinction of knowing SANJIVINIVIDYA (knowledge of bringing the dead back to life), which even BRIHASPATI, the preceptor of the gods, does not possess.

It is a Female nakshatra. Beauty, vanity, love of ease, comfort and luxury are all primarily female concerns.

THE SEX ORGANS, THE LIPS & THE RIGHT HAND are the body parts related to this nakshatra. It is a "PITTA" (fiery) nakshatra.

According to Varahamihira, Pooram borns "have sweet speech, pleasing manners, habit of wandering & often serve the government in one way or another.
The 1st paagam of Pooram indicates ego, dignity & regality;

The 2nd paagam of Pooram indicates the most sober and hardworking paagam;

The 3rd paagam of Pooram indicates the liking for travels, harmony, relaxation, refinement, counselling, creation & appreciation of beauty; &

The 4th paagam of Pooram indicates the emphasis on intensified emotions, home and family life.

ARE YOU BORN IN MAGHAM'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 10)

MAGHAM,  is represented by a sickle-shaped group of stars. The brightest among these is ALPHA-LEONIS.  With a visual magnitude of 1.41, it is also known as the "LITTLE KING".  Ancient Vedic seers saw this nakshatra as a THRONE while other cultures saw it as a LION.

Magham translates into "MIGHTY", "THE GREAT", "THE MAGNIFICIENT" & "THE MOST IMPORTANT".

Magham's main symbol is a "THRONE".  This symbol conjures up a picture of royalty, power, status & honour.  However, the bottom line of this symbol lies  in one-word, i.e. "ACHIEVEMENT".

PITRIS or "THE ANCESTORS" are the main ruling deity of this nakshatra.  Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the world of the ancestors control Magham.

Actually, we owe a lot to our ancestors in terms of our actual identity and station in life, even without knowing or acknowledging it, as in the case in modern times. Ancestor worships were one of the strands which connected all ancient civilizations.

Our ancient ancestors obviously were not ungrateful fools compared to many of us living in modern times, and saw it as their duty and privilege to keep alive the knowledge of their roots, by honouring and in some cases bonding with their ancestors in the other realms. That is why, ancesteral worship still remains a serious matter.

The modern science of Genetics has made it clear that most of our abilities and capabilities are dependant upon our genetic code.  And this genetic code is basically a sort of free gift from our ancestors. Magham, basically is a nakshatra which deals with the past.

The Puranic texts says there is a heavenly realm called "PITRA LOKAM" or "world of the ancestors".  This is the world where we go after our physical deaths.  It is sort of an intermediary station where souls meet their ancestors and rest for a while, before returning to earth for another life or moving on to other lokas. Therefore, Magham is a nakshatra relating both to our identity in the present life and our after-death journey.

In the universal scheme of things, Magham relates to "THYAGA SHEPANI SHAKTI" - the power of the astral body to cut its ties with the physical body. Magham guides the souls to Pitra Loka after one's death.  Thus, Magham is basically a facilitator in change-of-state.

It is a FEMALE nakshatra & is primarily a "KAPHA" or watery nakshatra due to its ability to hide its ambitions, motives and fieriness under a calm exterior.  A calm exterior is often associated with water sign or kapha element.

NOSE, LIPS & CHINS are the body parts related to this nakshatra.

According to Varahamihira, those born in Magham have "lots of wealth, many servants, live a life of luxury and enjoyment, preserving & devoted to gods and ancestors".

The 1st paagam of Magham indicates the will-power aspect of Magham;

The 2nd paagam of Magham indicates its emphasis on image & materialism, also known as very ambitious paagam of Magham;

The 3rd paagam of Magham indicates the intellectual side of Magham ; &

The 4th paagam of Magham indicates the love of rituals, ceremonies, ancestor worships and family pride. This paagam also produces very famous personalities too.

DO YOU KNOW which paagam of MAGHAM you belong to?  Every paagam comes with different interpretations.  Only DETAILED ASTROLOGERS can let you know the difference.

MOST FAMOUS PERSONALITIES OF MAGHAM :- PARAMAHAMSA YOGANANDA, the famous guruji who popularized Kundalini Yoga to the Westerners.  His book, "Autobiography of a YOGI" reveals both his spiritual authority and his spiritual teachings were a legacy from a line of Ascended Masters like Yuktheswaran, Lahira Mahashaya & the mysterious figure of Babaji.

ARE YOU BORN IN AAYILIUEM / ASHLESHA'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 9)

AAYILIUEM is represented in the night sky by a ring of stars in the constellation of HYDRA, known in modern astronomy as Epsilon-Hydrae, Delta-Hydrae, Mu-Hydrae, Rho-Hydrae, Sigma-Hydrae & Zeta- Hydrae. The brightest among them, i.e. Zeta-Hydrae has a visual magnitude of 3.12.

AAYILIUEM is a term normally associated with SERPENT imagery and can be translated as "COILING", "CLINGING", "EMBRACING" or 'ENTWINING". The name is probably derived from the serpent king/god "SHESHA".

A "coiled snake" is the main symbol of this star. Most cultures see snakes as secretive, creepy, wily, cold-blooded, deceptive, insincere, hypnotic and poisonous creatures.  On the positive side, serpents are seen as semi-devine creatures with access to other worlds.  They are supposed to have great powers of insight, intuition, perception, wisdom, cunning, concentration, and sexuality.

In vedic mythology, NAGAS (half serpent/half-human creatures) and other types of serpent-beings abound throughout all the 14 (fourteen) LOKAS (realms of existence).  In some of the legends, these beings are supposed to reside on the earthly plane as well under lakes, rivers or ocean beds.

Mystery, being one of the basic attributes of Aayiliuem; it is no wonder that all these beings are shrouded by mystery.

Aayiliuem is perhaps the most difficult of all nakshatra energies to handle and channel correctly, especially in the present day and age.  Even the ancient sages and scholars had very few kind words to say in relation to this nakshatra. It has its occult and esotoric significance.

In the universal scheme of things, Aayiliuem relates 'VISASLESHANA SHAKTI" - the power to inflict POISON.

According to Varahamihira, those  born in Aayiliuem can be crafty, ungrateful & glutton.

This nakshatra is related to the SAGE VASHISHTA, one of the seven celestial sages looking after the affairs of our galaxy. The name of this sage translates into "possesor of wealth".  According to ancient Vedic mythology most of the celestial serpent deities are said to guard treasure and are shown as being enormously wealthy.  Thus it is appropriate that the sage who has most to do with wealth presides over this nakshatra.
It is a FEMALE nakshatra & a KAPHA (watery) nakshatra. It is considered a RAKSHASHA or demonic nakshatra.

Bone-joints like ELBOWS, KNEE CAPS, THE NAILS & EARS are the body parts related to this nakshatra.

Its DIRECTION covers the NORTH-WEST to the NORTH.

The 1st paagam of Aayiliuem indicate it has the ability to put in the most hard work;

The 2nd paagam of Aayiliuem indicate a highly ambitious paagam which is usually liable to use all of Aayiliuem's negative traits like trickery and deceit to get what it wants;

The 3rd paagam of Aayiliuem indicate closely related to the occult side of Aayiliuem ;

&

The 4th paagam of Aayiliuem indicates where the "serpent of Aayiliuem" finally gets slain, most likely get tricked by others, rather than deceive others.

DO YOU KNOW which paagam of AAYILIUEM you belong to?  Every paagam comes with different interpretations.  Only DETAILED ASTROLOGERS can let you know the difference.
MOST FAMOUS PERSONALITIES OF AAYILIUEM :- INDHIRA GANDHI, the 1st and only woman prime minister of India.  Her life and works reveal all of Aayiliuem's functioning in modern times.

Poosam translates into the "NOURISHER", the "NURTURER" or the "YIELDING".  The name carries within itself the essence of this nakshatra.

Poosam's main symbol is the "milk yielding udder of a cow".  Some scholars ascribe a "FLOWER" to be one of Poosam's symbols too.

BRIHASPATI, the guru, priest and chief advisor of the Gods, is the presiding deity of this Nakshatra. Since he is the same as planet Jupiter, it is not very hard to correlate Jupiter's basic nature with the kind and caring disposition of this nakshatra. All of Jupiter's benevolence such as generosity, compassion, joyfulness and optimism are manifested through this nakshatra. Kindness is what this nakshatra is all about.

According to Varahamihira, those with Moon in Poosam are "lucky, learned, wealthy, ethical and of a peaceful nature".

Poosam relates to "BRAHMAVARCHASA SHAKTI"- the power to harness the creative powers of Brahma (the universal creator).  This re-emphasizes the priestly aspect of Poosam, where one does outer rituals like HOMA and YAGYA to get favour of celestial entities and divine powers in general.

It belongs to KSHATRIYA (Warrior) class because of Poosam's intense involvement in politics and rulership; Brihaspati, the ruling deity of this nakshatra, is supposedly  to have mastery over politics too.

THE STORY OF KALAHASTI. DO YOU HAVE KAALA - SARPA DOSHAM IN YOUR ASTROLOGY CHART?

The Sri Kalahasti temple is the home to one of the Pancha Bootha Lingams, i.e. "vaayu-lingam", representing the "air" element.  It is associated with the great saint Kannappan Naayanaar and it is also a "parihaaram" place for those who have "kaala sarpa dosham" in their astrological charts.

As the legend goes, this siva-lingam was discovered by three animals- A SPIDER, AN ELEPHANT & A SNAKE. Each of them pray to Lord Siva in their own manner.

The spider wove a web over the "lingam" to protect it, whereas the snake took the gemstones from the "naaga-land" to decorate the lingam. The elephant took the river water to clean/bathe the lingam. But, the three were unaware of each others' existence, therefore each of them considered itself to be the sole guardian to the lingam. With each of them coming at different times daily, of course the spider and the snake got furious whenever they see their webs and the decorated precious stones got washed away, without knowing, from the elephant's conduct of cleansing the lingam everytime with river water. wOw!

This angered the spider and the snake and they wanted to take revenge on whoever did this to their lingam, and they finally discovered it was the elephant that destroyed their decorations.  A fight ensued among the three.  The snake managed to bite the elephant, and as it fell, it speared the snake with it's tusks and crushed the spider simultaneously. Finally all three died.  However, the three were blessed by Lord Siva for their unwavering faith and devotion. Finally, all of  them attained salvation. And these are the three earliest devotees.

Sri Kaalahasteeswara name is made up of (LORD SHIVA=EESWARA), (SPIDER=SRI), (SNAKE=KAALA) & (ELEPHANT=HASTI).

It is the association with the snake that give it the parihaara status, where pujas are performed to appease RAHU & KETU.

There is also another story about Kannappan Naayanaar, who is an ardent devotee of Lord Siva. He never failed to perform his daily worship.  He brought water from the river in his mouth and bathed the image of the Lord by emptying his mouth onto the lingam.  Then he would chew bits of meat to ensure its suitability and offer to the deity.

One day he saw a discharge from the left eye of the image.  As he is in deep devotion, he wanted to cure the defect in the eyes of his Lord.  He pull out his own eye and put it onto the Lord's eye that was in defect. Then, he saw a similar discharge from the other eye of the image too.

Without thinking of the consequences that may arise, he decided to pull out his other eye too...OMG!! He also realise that he may not be able to see once he pull out his other eye.  He put his leg to mark the spot where the eye would go so that it would appear properly balanced on the image, once he decided to pull his other eye out.  Of course, when he is blind he wouldn't be able to see where to put the other eye on the image.   What a un-belieavable act of devotion!

As he was about to perform the act, the Lord appeared in front of him and this prevented him from self-mutilation. The Lord was pleased with his devotion and he subsequently granted him eternal bliss.

Sri Kalahasti temple is very important to the Shaivites as how Tirupati Temple is important to Vaishnavites.

ARE YOU BORN IN THIRUVAATHIRAI / "ARDRA" NAKSHATRA? KNOW YOURSELF BETTER (star 6)

THIRUVAATHIRAI, the seed of RAHU's ENERGY, is known in modern astronomy as BETELGUESE (Alpha-Orionis).  With a visual magnitude of 0.57, this red giant is one of the brightest stars in the night sky.  It is revered in most ancient cultures as a very important star.  The ancient Vedic seers saw this bright RED STAR as being the abode of RUDRA, the fierce form of SHIVA.

A "TEAR-DROP" in fact is one of the most well-known symbols of this nakshatra.  Many other scholars sees its main symbol as a DIAMOND too.

Its presiding deity is RUDRA., which translates into "the terrible", "the ruddy red", or "the transformer".  The reference to red colour is how the astronomers actually refer to Betelguese as the "RED GIANT". Rudra represents the destructive and transformative aspect of Shiva (the destroyer among the Vedic trinity).

According to some Vedic scholars, Betelguese is supposed to be the abode of Shiva. Orion was supposed to come into being when Shiva assumed the form of a hunter and took out one of Brahma's heads with his arrow. Some Vedic texts have gone to the extent of saying that Rahu resides in the heart of NEELAKANTHA, another name for Shiva.

Thiruvaathirai is considered to be a Balanced Nakshatra.  Its balanced nature stems from its mental and intellectual acumen. It represents those who think, analyze, and contemplate.  Therefore, the body parts relating to it are the EYES, BACK & FRONT of the HEAD, highlighting its perceptive and analyzing quality.  As neurologists are now discovering, most of the brain's controlling mechanisms are located in the front and the back of the Head.

ARE YOU BORN IN MRIGASHIRIDAM'S / MRIGASHIRA'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 5)

MRIGASHIRIDAM is represented in the celestial sky by a bright star and three not so bright stars in the constellation of ORION. These stars are known in modern astronomy as Pi2-Orionis, Pi3-Orionis, Pi4-Orionis & Gamma-Orionis (Bellatrix).

BELLATRIX is the bright STAR among them, with a visual magnitude of 1.66.  It is easy to lacate, as ORION is one of the most prominent and easily noticeable constellation in the night sky.  And Bellatrix is the bright star at the top right hand corner of Orion, while the three faint stars can be aligned in a bow like formation on the right hand side of Bellatrix.

The ancient VEDIC SEERS saw these stars to be forming a DEER'S HEAD.  Therefore, Mrigashiridam translates into the "DEER'S HEAD". The association with a deer makes this nakshatra possess all deer like qualities such as timidity, fragility, fickleness, wandering, etc.

In all ancient Vedic texts, deers are associated with gentle aspects of nature and often play major roles in ROMANTIC stories. In the vedic epic of RAMAYANA, it was a magical deer (actually a demon posing as a deer) that caught SITA's attention.

Another symbol besides the Deer, is "POT FULL OF SOMA".  And Soma is the preferred drink of the gods.  It is a kind of celestial nectar associated with the Moon.  In fact, Soma is one of the sanskrit names of the Moon.

The main DEITY of this nakshatra is the MOON. Ancient vedic seers also saw this nakshatra as a seat of SHAKTI.  In fact, PARVATI, the wife of SHIVA is the main PRESIDING DEITY of this Nakshatra.

The essence of the nature and functioning of Mrigashiridam can be summed up by one word - 'SEARCHING'. Mrigashiridam is the most curious amongst all nakshatras and thus makes one seek new areas of experience.

It's gender is known to be neutral and has the ability to function both as a male and a female. This dual functioning is clear from its ruling deities MOON and PARVATI.  Moon is seen as a male deity by the Vedic seers while Parvati is the female companion of Shiva.

EYES and EYEBROWS are the body parts related to this Nakshatra.

It is a primarily "PITTA" (fiery) nakshatra.

It's direction:
It's range is the ARC BETWEEN SOUTH WEST AND NORTH WEST.

The 1st paagam of Mridashiridam indicates firmness, yet creative and artistic.

ARE YOU BORN IN ROHINI'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 4)

ROHINI is known in modern astronomy as ALPHA-TAURI (ALDEBARAN).  And Aldebaran  is one of the brightest stars in the night sky.  In fact, this unique rose star can even be spotted in the evening sky.  The ancient vedic seers revered this star as the abode of BRAHMA and PRAJAPATIS.

ROHINI can be roughly translated into 'THE REDDISH ONE" or 'THE GROWING ONE".  The colour "Red" evokes notions of warmth, passion and liveliness.  It was seen as the colour of ABUNDANCE AND PROSPERITY.

ROHINI's main symbol is an Ox-Cart pulled by Two Oxen.

BRAHMA, the creator among the governing Trinity of the Universe, is the main presiding DEITY of this nakshatra. Rohini's extraordinary charm and magnetism is made clear by the fact that MOON, whose duty is to spend only a certain amount of time with each of the 27 Nakshatras (wives of the Moon), REFUSED TO LEAVE ROHINI'S ABODE. (Please refer to my earlier article, in my blog-archives, on MOON WAXES AND WANES BECAUSE OF HIS FATHER-IN-LAW'S CURSES).  Rohini makes people and even Gods chase after it in every way possible!...wOw!

ROHINI natives usually have large, clear and expressive eyes, refined features and a smiling countenance.  They are popular within their social circle because of their charisma.  Rohini is a true patron of the Arts.  Most persons born under the Rohini's nakshatra are usually very careful about their health and known to live up to a ripe old age. Common English words like "robust", "romantic", "romeo", "rosy", "rose" seem to have the same root as the word "Rohini".

Rohini is considered to be a BALANCED nakshatra.  Those who are involved in any productive activity will understand the importance of "balance" in achieving desired results.  Just as nature is creative and productive through the BALANCE of HEAT  & COLD, LIGHT & DARK, RAIN & SHINE, WINTER & SUMMER, etc., Rohini is methodical and balanced in its actions.

 According to Varahamihira, those born with Moon in Rohini are "HONEST, PURE, BEAUTIFUL, STEADY MIND & PLEASANT SPEECH".

It is the 4th nakshatra and the number 4 represent the mothering principle in nature.  And Rohini is the nakshatra most related to the Earth.

THE FOREHEAD, ANKLES, SHINS & CALVES OF THE LEGS are the body parts related to this nakshatra.

It is a KAPHA (watery) nakshatra.

It is related primarily to SOUTH, SOUTH EAST & NORTH WEST.

The 1st paagam of Rohini indicates strong passions & extravagance.

The 4th paagam of Rohini indicates home and material security.

ARE YOU BORN IN KARTIKAI'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 3)

KARTIKAI can be roughly translated into "THE ONE WHO CUTS / THE CUTTERS". Therefore its main symbol is an AXE, RAZOR, BLADE OR KNIFE. A FLAME of any type is another widely used symbol for Kartikai. PEACOCK too is another alternative symbol of this natshatra.

KARTTIKEYA, the commander of the celestial godly forces, is the primary ruling DEITY of the natshatra. He is one of the most prominent among SHIVA's sons. He was born for destroying the demons and restoring the heavens to the gods.

ONE POINTED ACTION & FIERY BURSTS OF ENERGY sums up Kartikai's nature and functioning. Kartikai exemplifies SUN's anger rather than MAR's anger. Sun's anger doesn't last for very long, while Mar's anger lingers on. They have an extreme temper, but it does not last for more than a few minutes.

Kartikai borns have a direct and straightforward approach and don't like to beat around the bush. At the same time, they are good at putting up social graces and do not act in a sharp manner all the time. They do so only when aroused.
Otherwise, they like to support others around them through their warmth, independence and will-power.

ARE YOU BORN IN BHARANI'S NAKSHATRA? (Star 2)

BHARANI can be roughly translated into "SHE WHO BEARS".  The name relates primarily to the feminine side of nature and its capacity to RECEIVE, HOLD,  NURTURE AND DESTROY. Bharani therefore carries all the above attributes.

YAMA, the lord of death, is considered the main presiding DEITY of this  natshatra.  In the vedic texts, he is mostly seen as the Lord of DHARMA.  When seen in the light of the fact, it is YAMA's duty to assign the life paths for the souls who have their earthly bodies, it becomes clear that he has to be well versed in the laws of KARMA and DHARMA.

EXTREME is the one word which sums up Barani's essential nature and functioning. Bharani natives are often strong characters who can understand the many turbulences which life has to offer.  They do get down and moan and cry like infants sometimes, but nothing holds them down for too long.

They are often seen to undergo huge transformations and radical changes throughout their lives. And all Baharni natives have a CREATIVE urge inside them. With their strong sense of ADVENTURE, it is seen that they can only achieve their goals if they are under constant GUIDANCE from a more mature and wiser source.

THE HEAD and BOTTOM PARTS OF THE FEET are the body parts related to this natshatra.
